In a show of gratitude for their past work with the Judiciary, the Honourable Chief Justice Rizine R. Mzikamanda, SC from 25th February to 27th February, 2025 visited some of the retired Judiciary officers in Lilongwe.
These retired officers, who included both Judicial Officers and support staff, are retired Justices of Appeal Isaac Mtambo and Robert Chinangwa, His Worship Kamphonda, retired Regional Courts Administrator Mr. Dave Mphepo, retired Court Administrators Mmes Temweka Kazembe and Grace Kalirani, retired Sheriffs Mr. Nefitali Milanzi and Mrs. Merium Kachule, retired Senior Copy Typist Mrs. Naomie Munthali, retired Building Foreman Mr. Juma, retired Court Marshalls Mss. Monica Banda and Melina Mnekwa Saidi, and retired Security Guard Mr. Mbingwani.
During the visit, Hon. Mzikamanda said that the Judiciary is always grateful for the work which each of the retired officers did whilst employed by the Judiciary, and that his visits were meant to show this appreciation.
Hon. Mzikamanda further invited them to be free to share their experiences with currently serving officers. He said that the retired officers remained part of the Judiciary and that Judiciary remembers them. He further encouraged them to attend Judiciary functions.
Hon. Mzikamanda shared with them some of the recent developments in the Judiciary, which include the introduction of Judiciary Open Day, Judiciary Tree Planting Day, the Functional Review which has significantly expanded the Judiciary, the creation of six specialised High Court Divisions, the launch of a Judiciary cloth, and the publication of Judiciary Annual Reports.
As gifts, among other things, the Honourable Chief Justice shared with them the 2023 Judiciary Annual Report and the Judiciary Cloth.
On their part, the visited retired officers said they were very humbled and honoured to be visited by the highest office of the Honourable Chief Justice. They said this was the first time that such a thing happened since their retirement. The retired officers visited have spent between two years and fifteen years in retirement.
The Senior Deputy Registrar, His Honour K. Mulungu and the Chief Courts Administrator, Mrs. Edith W. Chikagwa accompanied Honourable the Chief Justice during the visits.
