The Judiciary on Wednesday this week hosted 120 students and 6 teachers from Bishop Mtekateka Secondary School of Nkhotakota District at the Judiciary premises in Chichiri, Blantyre, as part of an educational tour aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of the justice system and legal profession.
High Court Judge Honourable Justice Jean Kayira engaged the students in a career talk, encouraging them to pursue excellence. She encouraged the students to set goals, be strategic and exercise discipline, among many other lessons shared on the day. The visit also featured an interactive session where students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain further insight into legal studies, court procedures and the administration of justice.
During the visit, the students were taken through various court processes and received insights into the role of the Judiciary in upholding the rule of law, protecting rights and administering justice in Malawi. They were later taken on a tour around the court premises led by His Honour Montfort Misunje, Assistant Registrar in the Criminal Division, together with Her Honour Sajda Maiden, Assistant Registrar in the Family and Probate Division.
The school’s patron, Mr. Manly Mkonda, hailed the Judiciary for accepting the school's request, a gesture which has proven to them that the Judiciary is open and approachable.
The Judiciary remains committed to promoting public awareness and civic education through engagements that inspire young people to appreciate and contribute to the justice sector.
