The Judiciary has received one vehicle and six motorcycles from the European Unionย under the Chilungamoย II: Access to Justice Programme, to enhance mobility, supervision of courts, and access to remote areas.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on Tuesday, the Honourable the Deputy Chief Justice Lovemore P. Chikopa, SC, who spoke on behalf of all implementing partners (Malawi Legal Aid Bureau, Office of the Ombudsman, Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prisons Service, Malawi Human Rights Commission, and the Ministry of Justice) expressed gratitude to the EU for its steadfast support, noting that the vehicles are not just conveniences but enablers of justice.
He highlighted the Judiciary's achievements under the programme, including training of judicial officers, rehabilitation of courts, expanded court circuits, and public awareness initiatives. Honourable Justice Chikopa reaffirmed the Judiciaryโs commitment to using the resources transparently and effectively to advance access to justice, human rights, and the rule of law.
The handover ceremony also featured the launch of Financial Accounting and Document Repository Systems and the signing of work plans to facilitate effective implementation and progress monitoring of the Programme's Year 2.
